Fastest route from Orlando to Fort Lauderdale

The most direct route from Orlando to Fort Lauderdale is via the Florida Turnpike and Interstate 95. The drive covers 213 miles and will take a minimum of three hours. The beginning of the route takes you inland around Kissimmee, eventually meeting the Atlantic coast just north of West Palm Beach.

Scenic route from Orland to Fort Lauderdale

If you have more time, drive from Orlando to Fort Lauderdale via Florida State Road A1A, one of the most scenic roads in the US. This unique route runs along the coast, including spots where you will directly drive next to the Atlantic Ocean. Although only about an extra 30 miles, the journey takes at least twice as long. It is recommended to break the trip up over two days and fully enjoy all the great beach towns and coastal attractions. Do note that due to its proximity to the ocean, it is advised to check traffic before planning a road trip during the tropical storm season.  

  • Make a stop along Florida's Space Coast and head to Cocoa Beach to catch some waves and walk its famous pier. Nearby is the Kennedy Space Center, another great attraction. 
  • Spend some time in West Palm Beach and visit its fantastic museums like the Norton Museum of Art.  
  • See one of the few remaining Florida lighthouses and plan a tour of the Hillsboro Inlet Lighthouse not far from Pompano Beach.
